RCU ARREST 3 ON CREDIT CARD SHOPPING SPREE:

On Wednesday afternoon members of the Regional Crime Unit arrested two males and a female in the act of using stolen credit cards at the Real Canadian Superstore in Langford. The three appeared to be taking turns entering the store and making purchases when they were arrested in the parking lot without incident. When police contacted the owner of the credit cards she had not yet discovered that they had been stolen. Follow-up investigation determined that her vehicle had been entered earlier the same afternoon while it was parked unattended at Anderson Cove in East Sooke Park. Thieves had removed the credit cards from the victim’s wallet but left the wallet and purse otherwise undisturbed, apparently hoping to delay the discovery of the theft and cancellation of the credit cards.

A 39 year old male has been charged with Fraud, Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, and Possession of Break In Instruments. A 32 year old male prolific offender has been charged with the same offences as well as breaching a condition of his probation. Both males are well known to police, and have been held in custody to appear in Western Communities Court on Thursday, January 27. A 20 year old female has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property, and was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of April 7.

The Regional Crime Unit is an integrated unit comprised of police officers from the Saanich Police Department, Oak Bay Police Department, Central Saanich Police Service, West Shore Detachment RCMP as well as Provincial RCMP. Since February 2008 the Regional Crime Unit has been pursuing its mandate of proactively targeting the region’s most prolific criminal offenders.
