Another Grow-Op Busted

Yet another marihuana grow-op was busted on Wednesday by the Saanich Police Street Crime Unit.

The Street Crime Unit ended a three month investigation into a marihuana grow-op at a residence in the 5900 block of West Saanich Road.  The grow-op was actually located in a full sized shipping container on the property, not in the residence.

The grow-op consisted of 26 high intensity lights and 656 plants in various stages of growth. Found inside the residence was about 10 pounds of dried marihuana valued at about $17000.00. Also found were four ounces of cocaine valued up to $10000.00 and &2600.00 cash.

Officers found an energy diversion at the residence which powered the grow-op and also heated the residence for free!

Charges are pending against a 50 year old male and a 27 year old female husband and wife. Charges include Theft, Cultivation of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

If you suspect that there is a marihuana grow-op in your neighbourhood, you are encouraged to contact the Saanich Police or your local police department. You may notice odd hours of activity, no activity at all, strange noises or smells, any of which may be an indication or a grow-op.
