VICTIM FIGHTS OFF ROBBER

Last Friday evening, February 4th, just after 8pm a robbery occurred on Leslie drive near the Goose Trail.

The victim had been walking on the Goose Trail and turned onto Leslie drive when she was approached.

A male youth wearing a ski mask approached and threatened the victim with a knife. The victim initially believed it to be a joke until he then attempted to grab  her Ipod and cell phone.

The victim then hit the suspect in the chest and began to yell for help.  Saanich Police Patrol and a Police Service Dog raced to the scene and established a perimeter. The police dog tracked but no suspect was located.

An area Patrol officer briefly detained another young male found within a few blocks but he was later released.

Although the actions of the victim are laudable, attempting to fight with a robber and risking injury for small amounts of cash or electronics is not suggested.
