On Saturday April 2 at 5:30pm Saanich Police responded to a single vehicle crash which occurred at the intersection of Midgard at Olivia Place. Witnesses reported a red Mustang was travelling east on Midgard accelerating when it left the roadway to the right crashing into a tree in a front yard of a residence. The impact forced the vehicle to spin 180 degrees around the tree leaving the driver trapped inside.
Saanich Police, Saanich Fire and Provincial Ambulance Service responded. Saanich Fire used the Jaws of Life to Extract the 17 year old driver who was taken to hospital with head injuries. The passenger a 16 year old female was also transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The crash is still under investigation by members of the Saanich Police Traffic Safety Unit. Initial observations were that speed, weather condiditons and driver inexperience were contributing factors.
