At about 12:15 this afternoon, Saanich Police were contacted by the RCMP about the remains of a woman located near Prior Lake.
A dog walker in the area of Prior Lake, which is at the back of Thetis Lake, located some human remains. The Westshore RCMP were contacted and attended the scene.
The remains of a woman were recovered with the assistance of the View Royal Fire Department and the BC Coroner Service. Late this afternoon, evidence discovered at the scene led to a preliminary identification of the deceased as Maria Huyben, 67 years old, from Saanich.
Nothing suspicious was found by investigators who attended the scene where Huyben was located. The investigation now resides with the BC Coroner Service.
Huyben had been the subject of a missing person investigation since June 26th, 2011, after being reported missing by family. Her vehicle was discovered that day in the Thetis Lake Park lot.
