A first for a TSU officer

A veteran Traffic Safety Unit officer is shocked during routine traffic stop.

Yesterday, in the early afternoon, two Traffic Safety Unit officers were monitoring speeds in the 5000 block of Cordova Bay road in the school zone. They observed a Buick Century travelling 50km northbound through the school zone.

The car was stopped and the driver handed over his license. The officer was then shocked to see the driver had a 1911 birth year!

The Saanich centenarian had a perfect driving record. The Traffic Safety Unit officer wrote a warning ticket and issued a finger wag.

“I was shocked, not only at the 100 years of age, but the brand new 5 year renewal driver license,” says Cst. Janice Carmena.

Here’s hoping we all drive for that long……….
