Bus stop assault

Saturday night, two officers responding to another call spotted an assault occurring at the Royal Oak bus exchange.

On Saturday, April 14th, at 8:50pm, two officers responding to another call spotted an assault in progress at the Royal Oak bus exchange. The suspect was seen to be hitting other youths with a large stick. The officers activated their lights and approached the youth.

The 17 year old Saanich youth then fled, actually running down the middle of Royal Oak ave followed by the police vehicle. He then fled into a yard and the police vehicle followed down the driveway. Containment of the area was established and a police dog was called to the scene.

An officer on containment at Viemont, spotted a male which matched the description. The youth was arrested. Once identified, he was found to be intoxicated and bound by various court orders.

Once in an interview room, the youth actually pushed the investigating officer leading to a charge of assault.

Suggested charges included:

• Assault with a weapon x 2

• Assault

• Assaulting peace officer

• Mischief

• Breach of a court order x 2
