Saanich Police investigate paramedic assault

BC Ambulance Service paramedic assaulted in Saanich.

Last Thursday evening at about 11:30pm, BC Ambulance and Saanich Fire Department crews were called to a residence in the 1000 block of Greenridge Crescent.

The original call was for medical assistance for an intoxicated male who had collapsed or fallen. BC Ambulance paramedics were admitted to the home by the homeowner to render assistance. Saanich Fire Department arrived a short time later.

As events unfolded, the cooperation of the homeowner eroded. For whatever reason, the homeowner then grabbed a paramedic from behind in an attempt to push him down. The homeowner was restrained by two members of the Saanich Fire Department and held for police.

An emergency request for police to attend was received by the Saanich Police Communications Centre. Two officers arrived to assist and took the male into custody.

The 25 year old resident was arrested for assault on the BC Ambulance paramedic. He was released on documents to appear in court in the coming weeks.
