Prolific ‘Theft from Auto’ Thief Caught

Saanich Police have removed a prolific offender from the streets, thanks to an observant neighbour.

At 2am August 23, 2012 Saanich Police were contacted by an alert neighbour who reported seeing a male enter into one of their neighbour’s vehicle.

Saanich Police responded, and after a quick search of the area, located a male hiding in some bushes. Police located monies (change) and several electonic items, including portable vehicle GPS devices.

The male was subsequently arrested and held for morning court. The male is well known to police for entering into insecure vehicles and stealing electronic items.

Saanich Police are attempting to locate the owners of the recovered stolen property. The property is believed to have been stolen from vehicles which were left unlocked. Forced entry into vehicles is not suspected.

If a person is missing items from within their vehicle from the night of 22/23 August and reside in the area bounded by Douglas St near the Pat Bay Highway, McKenzie Ave and Quadra St, please contact Saanich Police (250)475-4321, and refer to SPD #12-17220.

Saanich Police again want to stress to the public to lock their vehicles and to not leave any items in plain view.
