Bus rear ended

At around 9:30am this morning, a witness who had observed some concerning driving behaviour contacted the Saanich Police. While talking to the call taker, the truck was seen to have collided with a BC Transit bus on the McKenzie off ramp from the Pat Bay highway southbound.

Initial responding officers noticed that the driver displayed some indicators that may suggest that drugs or alcohol might be a factor. As a result, the driver was taken into custody by officers. The 25 year old driver, originally from the Lower Mainland area, became extremely aggressive and displayed obvious ‘anti-police’ behaviour. Once being placed in the rear of a police vehicle, the male then tried to kick out the windows of the car.

The male driver was taken to Victoria General Hospital by way of the BC Ambulance Service, escorted by officers.

Factors that led to the collision are being investigated by the Saanich Police Traffic Safety Unit. Multiple officers are involved in the investigation and several witnesses have come forward.

Charges being considered at this time include Assaulting a Peace Officer, Uttering Threats, Dangerous Operation of a vehicle and Impaired Driving.
