Break and Enter Suspect Returns to Scene – Arrested

A 41 year old resident of Victoria was arrested on December 28, 2012, after returning to the scene of a crime.

On December 27, 2012, members of the Saanich Police Uniform Division, responded to a report of a break in and theft from storage lockers in the 3200 block of Rutledge Street.

Video footage was obtained which clearly showed clothing worn by the suspect.  The footage also showed the suspect leaving the property with items that were not previously in his possession, and were believed to have been stolen from the storage lockers.

Acting on suspicion that the suspect may return to the area the following evening, Cst. Mead and Cst. Henault placed themselves strategically in the area.  Shortly afterwards, a male matching the clothing description from the previous evening was observed and checked by police in the immediate area.

The suspect was found to be in possession of break in tools and was believed  to be the same male that had commited the break in the previous evening.  As a result of the efforts of the officers, property stolen from the storage lockers was recovered and returned to its righful owners.

The male was arrested and released on charges of Break, Enter, and Commit Theft, as well as Possession of Break-in Instruments, and will make his first appearance on January 24, 2013.
