Sawed-Off Shotgun and Other Weapons Seized

Saanich Police and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) recovered several weapons Saturday night from a rental apartment suite in the 3200 block of Cook Street.

The search warrant was executed at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday night, Feb 23rd. Nobody was home at the time that the GVERT entered the apartment.

The 35 year old man who rents the apartment became aware of the situation and he cooperatively turned himself in to police officers at another location.

A sawed-off shotgun was recovered by police, in addition to a set of brass knuckles and some bear spray. The arrested man has previous criminal convictions for mischief and possession of a prohibited weapon – brass knuckles.

The police investigation is continuing. Several weapons-related charges will be recommended to Crown Counsel. The suspect was released on a Promise to Appear for early April at Victoria Provincial Court. He has a number of bail conditions with regard to contact with witnesses, alcohol and weapons.
