Apartment Building Video Surveillance Once Again Assists With Arrest

Alert residents and the use of video surveillance cameras have led to the arrest of a prolific property offender, suspected of being responsible for numerous thefts from vehicles throughout the region.

On June 4, 2013, Saanich Police were contacted by several residents of a building in the 200 block of Regina Avenue, all reporting that their vehicles had been entered overnight in a secured underground parking area.  Numerous items were reported as missing.

The occupants of the building were able to review video surveillance footage from the building that captured photos of the suspect male.

Later that same day, at approximately 5:40 pm, one of the witnesses to the incident, who had observed the male on video, observed a male matching the description at a Tillicum Mall business.  This witness contacted police.

Police attended, located, and arrested the male, who was identified as Liam Charles WILLIAMS, a 32 year old resident of Langford.

WILLIAMS was found to be wearing clothing matching the description of property stolen during the theft from vehicles.  Furthermore, a bag of clothing that was with WILLIAMS was found to contain clothing that matched the exact description of the clothing that he was wearing at the time of the offences.

WILLIAMS had recently been released from police custody after he was arrested for a number of offences in the Central Saanich area.  At the time of his arrest, WILIAMS had an oustanding warrant for his arrest that had been issued May 31, 2013.

WILLIAMS has been held in custody and is next scheduled to appear in late June 2013.
