Early Morning Nightclub Assault Results In One Male in Hospital

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22, 2013, Saanich Police received multiple calls reporting an assault that had taken place outside of the V-Lounge at the Red Lion Inn on Douglas Street.

At approximately 2:30 am, several witnesses reported that a male had assaulted another male near the front doors of the club, resulting with the victim being knocked unconscious.

Staff from the nightclub were quick to intervene and a 30 year old Esquimalt resident was physically restrained at the scene until the arrival of police.

A 46 year old from Surrey BC suffered serious injuries as a result of the attack.  The male was transported to hospital by ambulance and it was later determined that the victim had suffered multiple skull fractures, as well as a broken jaw.  The victim was expected to be kept at the hospital for approximately 48 hours for observation and treatment prior to his release.

The 30 year old suspect was detained and later released from police custody.  Charges of aggravated assault will be recommended against the 30 year old suspect, who is expected to appear in court in early August, 2013.

“It would appear that the victim may have tried to come to the aid of several females that were being pestered by the suspect” Sgt. Steve Eassie said.  It is not known if there were other factors that led to the incident.

Anyone that may have witnessed this incident who has not yet identified themselves to police are asked to contact the Saanich Police Department Major Tip Line at 250-475-4356.
