Alert Area Residents And Intrusion Alarm Lead To Arrest Of Female Unlawfully In A Dwelling House

A 23 year old female was arrested shortly before 11 am on Monday, October 21, 2013, after information was received from an alarm company concerning a possible break and enter to a residence in the 3900 block of Prestwood Drive.

Multiple intrusion alarms were noted by the alarm company who had been hired to monitor the house alarm at the private residence. The alarm company contacted Saanich Police to report the information.

Police had previously been alerted to suspicious activity that had occurred in the immediate area, involving a person that had been described as female in her late teens. Previously, one home owner had returned home to find the female in their backyard, while another reported confronting a female in another backyard in the early morning hours. A third report of a theft of a pair of expensive running shoes from a patio deck was also reported in the area.

Upon arriving at the residence, officers located a residence that appeared to be under construction. As officers were clearing the interior of the residence, the female allegedly exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. There were no apparent signs of forced entry to the residence.

Based on the description of the female, including her clothing, it is believed that the female was the same person involved in at least two of the previous reported incidents.

The 23 year old female, who is known to police, was arrested and later released from custody. Charges of being unlawfully in a dwelling house are being recommended to Crown counsel.

Area residents are being reminded to ensure that all windows and doors are locked. Furthermore, if any suspicious activity is observed in your neighbourhood, please contact police to report the observations.
