A series of break and enters in the Shelbourne St corridor/University Heights area are of concern to the Saanich Police. There have been 14 residential Break and Enters in the Shelbourne St corridor and near the area of University Heights dating back to November 25, 2015. The majority of the Break and Enters have occurred in the late afternoon hours and into the early evening.
The last incident occurred on Tuesday January 5, 2016 at 6:20pm near University Heights. The homeowner had just returned home and found an unidentified man inside the home stealing items. The homeowner chased the man out of the home and tackled him, causing him to drop most of the homeowner’s property; the man then got up and fled. Saanich Police were contacted and immediately flooded the area with Officers and a Canine Unit however they were unable to locate the suspect.
Saanich Police describe the suspect as a White Male, 30-50 years old, shorter than 6 feet tall, an average build, and having a full beard
“At this time we cannot say, with certainty, that all these incidents are related or involve the same suspect however there is a similar pattern” A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said. “In most circumstances the Break and Enters occurred on ground floor apartments, townhomes or the ground floor of single family homes and mostly involved unlocked/unsecured doors”.
Saanich Police advise against approaching an intruder as this can be very dangerous. Call 9-1-1 immediately and get the best description of the suspect to assist Police in their investigation. People are reminded to lock their doors and windows and ensure sliding patio doors are properly secured with a lock.
