Saanich K9 captures B&E suspect

Shortly after 2:00am on January 12, 2016 Saanich Police responded to an alarm at a local coffee shop, Francelli’s, located in the Royal Oak Shopping Centre. Numerous Officers attended and found the glass front door had been smashed out and it appeared as if items inside the shop had been disturbed.

Saanich Police K9 Officer Zielinski and his partner K9 Zeke attended and searched for the suspect.  Zeke located the suspect a few blocks away, near the 800 Block of Mann Ave, hiding in a back yard.  The suspect was arrested without incident and a number of undisclosed items from the store were in his possession.

“Small businesses, such as Francelli’s, are an important part of Saanich and break-ins can be costly for the store owners” A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said.  “Saanich Police put a high priority on solving these crimes.  This is a good example of the excellent work done by the women and men (and K9!) of the Saanich Police Department”.

A 42 year old Langford man, who is known to Police, was later released on a Promise to Appear with a court date set for February 2016.  Charges recommended include, Break and Enter and commit an indictable offence, Possession of break in instruments and possession of stolen property.
