Police need help finding owners after bicycle chop shop bust

In October 2016 the Saanich Police began an investigation into a bicycle “chop-shop” being operated in Saanich.  On November 7, 2016 Officer’s from the Saanich Police Department Property Crimes Unit along with assistance of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a property in the 400 block of Dupplin Rd.

A 49 year old man and a 51 year old man, both from Saanich, were arrested without incident.  Upon searching the property Police located a massive quantity of bicycles, scooters, bike parts and accessories.  Officers from the Saanich Police Property Crime Unit estimate the value at over $50,000.

“We haven’t been able to locate the owners of a number of bicycles and bicycle parts” said A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie.  “We are hoping that people in the Greater Victoria Cycling Community will see these photos, recognize some of the property and help us get the property back the rightful owners.”

Police are recommending the two men be charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and they will appear in court in late December 2016.  Saanich Police are asking the public to call the Saanich Police at250-475-4321 if any of the property is yours or you may have information to help reunite the property with the rightful owners.
