Campers Move to Private Property

On October 2, 2018 campers who had previously been living at Goldstream Provincial Park moved their camp onto private property in the 5000 blk of West Saanich Road.  The Saanich Police and District of Saanich became aware of the camps relocation shortly after it’s arrival and have been in communication with the campers, property owner, and neighbours.

The District of Saanich is investigating the camp as a potential violation of Saanich Zoning Bylaw 8200, and the Saanich Police Department is exploring options through the Trespass Act and the Residential Tenancy Act.  While efforts are being made to determine who has lawful authority to be on this property, police will closely monitor the camp and respond to any calls for service relating to it.

This camp is a continuation of the Regina Park Encampment that formed in April of this year.  Evidence has shown that over the course of that encampment, and the subsequent camp at Ravine Way, the rate of criminal activity in the area increased.  The Saanich Police are committed to ensuring the safety of all those impacted by this camp and ask that any criminal or suspicious activity be reported to us by either calling our non-emergency line at 250-475-4321 or for an emergency, 9-1-1.
