Officers Respond to Indoor Gatherings Over the Weekend 21-6611, 21-6609

Patrol officers issued two separate homeowner fines over the week-end for indoor gatherings contrary to the current Provincial Health Orders.

On Friday March 26 and early Saturday March 27 officers were called to two separate homes in Saanich for noise disturbances. It was discovered that in both cases there was a gathering of people inside the homes and that the additional people present did not reside there. In one case the owner explained they were having a party with friends from the neighbourhood. Each homeowner was fined $2,300 for being in contravention of the provincial health orders.

The low volume of tickets issued by our officers provides an indication that the overwhelming majority of people in Saanich are following the restrictions. However, there are those that continue to choose to not follow these rules. We will investigate reports of those contravening the order and encourage people to call our non-emergency line to make those reports.

With new province-wide restrictions announced yesterday, it is important for residents and businesses to be aware of all of the current measures in place and plan their events accordingly.
