Suspicious Vehicle Prompts Warning to Parents 21-7317

Date: April 6, 2021

File:21-7317

An incident involving a suspicious vehicle last night is prompting a warning to parents from the Saanich Police.

On Monday, April 5th, 2021 at 5:15 pm a 14-year-old girl was walking along Queenswood Drive at MacDonald Drive West when a black vehicle pulled up alongside her. The driver began asking her for help looking for his dog and continued to do so until the girl chose to run away. The suspect then quickly drove away possibly swerving eastbound on Queenswood Drive.

The suspect, who was possibly intoxicated, was described as a Caucasian male, 30 years old, wearing a black toque, black face mask and a puffy jacket. All of the clothing items were described as being dirty. He was driving an older black 4-door vehicle in poor condition, with the rear side windows smashed out, and large amounts of cans and bottles for recycling inside the car.

Police attended the area but were not able to locate the suspect.

“We would like to caution residents, particularly parents and children, of this suspicious vehicle and to report any similar circumstances immediately to the police. While this appears to be an isolated incident, we are taking this matter seriously and looking for any information that may help identify either the suspect or the vehicle involved. We commend this young person for being suspicious of the suspect, quickly leaving the area and for immediately notifying her parents.”
