High Powered Firearms Seized from Fortified Home 21-2760

Date: May 28, 2021

File: 21-2076

Assault rifles, handguns, prohibited weapons, and drugs were seized from a home in the 3300 block of Glasgow Avenue yesterday.

Back in January 2021, the Saanich Street Crime Unit initiated an investigation into a CRD wide drug trafficking operation based out of a residence in Saanich. The investigation culminated in the execution of a search warrant at the home on Glasgow Avenue on Thursday May 27th, 2021, which led to the arrest of three individuals.

During the search, officers located two SKS assault rifles, a modified shotgun, and a handgun. These firearms were located with ammunition and in easy-to-access locations at the entrance of the home. Additional imitation firearms, prohibited weapons and firearm parts were also located, thousands of dollars in cash, and controlled substances believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

One person was arrested at the residence, while two others were arrested at a mall in the 1600 block of Hillside Avenue in Victoria.

“Most concerning was the fact that this residence was fortified from the inside and had high-powered firearms with ammunition located just inside the entrance. This was a very dangerous situation that posed a potential risk to the police or any member of the public that would have approached this residence.”

This file involved significant police resources, including the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Unit and the Integrated Canine Section.

Two of the three remain in police custody and are facing multiple firearms and drug trafficking charges. The investigation remains open and additional charges will be forthcoming. Police continue to look into whether this operation is possibly related to organized gang groups operating in the lower mainland and Vancouver Island.
