MORE DRIVERS AND CELL PHONES?

Yesterday afternoon, Patrol and Traffic Safety Unit members again conducted enforcement at the Trans Canada Highway at Saanich road. Once again, several seat belt and cell phone tickets were issued.

From 12pm-2pm yesterday, Uniformed Division officers were stationed at the Trans Canada Highway at Saanich road to monitor the intersection.

A total of 23 tickets were issued, as follows:

– 10 for cell phone use

– 10 for seat belts

– 2 violations for both cell phone use and no seat belt

“Considering all the publicity surrounding cell phone use, we are still shocked at the numbers. We will continue to vigorously enforce this legislation,” says S/Sgt. Terry Parker, NCO in charge of the Traffic Safety Unit.

Similar enforcement projects will be conducted on a daily basis in Saanich at a variety of locations in the near future. The fine amount for both not wearing a seat belt and using a cell phone is $167.00
