Hungry Bear Sighted

Yesterday a bear was sighted in the 5900 block of Old East Road. Two separate witnesses saw the animal.

The bear, nick-names ‘Whinnie’ raided two bee-hives located on a property in the area. The Saanich Police and BC Conservation service were contacted. Given a delay in reporting and the rural nature of the sighting, no action was taken.

“We want to remind our community that bears are in the process of waking from their winter hibernation. So they will be out foraging for food,” says Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
