Canada Day celebrations

Saanich Police will have a significant presence in the community to ensure a safe Canada Day for everybody. Additional officers have been brought in and a contingent of volunteer Reserve Constables will be assisting.

This year, as in past years, the focus will be on:

• Proactive patrols at BC Transit bus stops and exchanges where problems arise with riders

• Ensure that all B.C. liquor laws are being followed and enforced when necessary

• Proactively engage with problem groups and people in an effort to reduce issues later in the evening

• Respond to regular calls for service

A contingent of plainclothes officers will be deployed for the evening to focus on liquor outlets and bus depots. Patrol officers will also be conducting roadblocks to check for drinking drivers and for minor’s in possession of alcohol.

The public is reminded that if you are using public transit, there is a ban on the transportation of alcohol for July 1st. Transit Operators will be in contact with police regarding the transportation of liquor and for excessive drunkenness.

We encourage all families to come and enjoy the Canada Day Picnic, which will occur along the Gorge Waterway for the day. Come see Ace, the Saanich Police mascot down at the Gorge.
