Have a safe Halloween

The Halloween season is upon us. There are a few important safety considerations prior to sending out the little ghosts and zombies:

  • Wear something bright or consider reflective material or lights
  • Consider the child’s vision if wearing a mask
  • Watch for tripping hazards
  • travel in groups and stick to well lighted neighbourhoods.

Here is a link to the Red Cross page on Halloween safety.

A reminder that the discharge of fireworks without a permit, is contrary to Saanich bylaws. Fine amounts are between $100 to $500. To obtain a permit you must contact the Saanich Fire Department 250-475-5503. You must take a 30 minute seminar to obtain the permit and there is one more this weekend.

The Saanich Police will deploy approximately 40 uniformed officers for the pre-Halloween weekend. This is in anticipation of an increase in call volumes for mischief, party and noise related issues.

Areas of focus for patrol will be schools, parks, malls and liquor outlets. There will also be roadblocks out to check for drivers who have been drinking.

“We will be doing our part to ensure a safe, happy Halloween week. When you see one of our officers give them a wave,” says Sgt. Dean Jantzen.
