First major crime of the year- New Years stabbing

At approximately 400 am on January 1, 2013, Saanich Police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 400 block of Boleskine Road. Responding uniform officers faced a chaotic scene at the single family residence where the occupants were celebrating New Years. Initial investigation has determined that two males were injured in a melee that is still under investigation.

One 25-year old male occupant suffered a laceration to the head while at the home. A second male, 23-years old, upon discovering the nature of the assualt confronted the suspects on the street out front of the home. The second victim is not a resident of the home.

The second male was also assaulted and received injuries to the head and torso. This male was transported to Victoria General Hospital with a life threatening stab injury. The male is currently in surgery but is expected to recover from the injuries.

Attending police, including K-9 officer, tracked the suspects as they fled northbound to the area of Harriet and the Trans Canada Highway. The suspects were not located but enquiries are still ongoing.

Saanich Police Detectives including Forensic Identification officers were called to the scene which remains behind police tape at this hour. Witnesses are being interviewed and the victim was able to provide a statement to police prior to admission to hospital.
