Overnight Stabbing Investigation

At about 12:30am, Saanich Police were called by Westshore RCMP who had been contacted by staff at Victoria General Hospital as a result of a male who arrived at hospital with stab wounds.

The victim was conscious and able to confirm that he knew his attacker and that the stabbing had occurred on Regina avenue in Saanich. The victim, a 42 year old Saanich resident, received emergency surgery for a wound to his neck area and remains in hospital.

Saanich Police Detectives and Forensics Investigators were called out overnight to assist with the investigation. Three different crime scenes were being secured by officers overnight- the location of the stabbing on Regina ave, a residence in the 300 block of Davida ave and a residence in the 3200 block of Harriet road.

The attacker was arrested by patrol officers outside a residence in the 3200 block of Harriet road. At present, the 45 year old male suspect remains in police custody.

Apparently the victim did not know he had been stabbed, only thinking he had been punched. As a result he made his way to a friend’s house on Davida avenue. From there, the male made his way to hospital by taxi.

Both males are known to police and each other. The motive is believed to be over a monetary dispute.
