Second Motorcycle Collision Sends Another Rider To Hospital

Saanich Police are investigating a second collision involving a motorcycle that occurred less than 12 hours after an earlier motorcycle involved collision.

Shortly before 8:00 pm, on Tuesday, August 6, numerous 911 calls were received relating to a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle in the 4500 block of Wilkinson Road, between Greenlea Drive and West Saanich Road.

Preliminarily it appears that the 2004 Ducati motorcycle, driven by a 56 year old Saanich man, crossed the single solid line, striking the front end of the oncoming vehicle, a 2007 Volkswagon Rabbit, driven by a 35 year old female who was also a resident of Saanich.  The motorcycle was southbound on Wilkinson Road, driving towards Greenlea Drive, and the passenger car was northbound.

The Provincial Ambulance Service transported the 56 year old motorcycle rider to hospital for assessment.  It has been determined that the male suffered serious internal injuries and remains in critical condition.  The 35 year old driver of the car was shaken but suffered no apparent injuries.

Members of the Collision Reconstruction Team and the Forensic Identification Section attended the scene and are continuing with the investigation.  It is not known if speed was a factor at this time.  There were no indications that alcohol was a factor in the collision.

Numerous witnesses rendered assistance at the scene and provided investigators with information.

Wilkinson Road was closed to traffic until midnight.
