Man Wanted On Domestic Related Charges Located And Arrested Following Vehicle Collision

A man that has evaded police since August 20, 2013, was arrested in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 8.

Shortly after 11:00 pm on Friday evening, Saanich Police received a report of a serious motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Petworth Drive and Kerryview Drive. A single vehicle had left the roadway, struck a rock face, and rolled onto its side.

Several minutes later, police were contacted by an area resident who stated that someone was on her property, ringing her doorbell, and banging on her door. The caller was determined to be the victim of a previous domestic violence related incident. The boyfriend alleged to have been involved in the previous report, had not yet been located by police.

Numerous police units responded immediately to the area, including a Saanich Police K9 unit. Given the rural location and expanse of property in the area, VICPD K9 were also requested to assist. VICPD K9 attended to the area to do so.

Saanich Police K9 followed a track leaving the rear of the property through thick bush and rugged terrain. After a lengthy deployment and tracking of the suspect, the VICPD K9 unit took over to continue the search which appeared to have headed back in the direction of the property of where the victim resided.

The Saanich Police K9 handler and another officer were checking parked vehicles on the property when a noise was heard in the area. The suspect was observed attempting to hide on the top of a parked recreational vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and was identified as Greig Fredrik WIKOREN. WIKOREN had been wanted by the police for allegations of domestic violence stemming from an incident on August 20, 2013. Despite police efforts, including assistance from local Media, WIKOREN had evaded capture until this last contact with Police.

WIKOREN was returned to the Saanich Police Department where he was held in custody. WIKOREN appeared before a Justice via a Telebail process on Saturday, and was remanded in custody. WIKOREN is expected to appear in court on Monday, September 9, 2013.

The 45 year old female victim was not injured during this incident, however, was obviously shaken by the events.

Saanich Police would like to thank the public and the Media for the ongoing assistance and interest in this file.
