Death Investigation

Presently, Investigators from the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIMCU), with the assistance of the BC Coroner’s Service, are investigating the death of a Saanich resident. They are being assisted by detectives from the Saanich Police General Investigation Unit, members of the Saanich Police Forensic Identification Service and Street Crime Unit.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 7:16 am, the Saanich Police Tele-Communication Centre received a 911 call reporting an emergency in a home situated in the 700 block of Cameo St.

The lone 911 caller reported that a resident of the home was in need of medical attention.

That 911 call triggered a multi layered response from the Saanich Police Uniform Division and from the BC Ambulance Service and the Saanich Fire Department. Investigators from the Saanich Police General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section were also called to the scene this morning to assist the uniformed members.

“At this stage of the investigation, I can with a high degree of confidence, report there is no risk to the residents of Cameo St, with respect to the 911 emergency call to the home that is presently behind police line tape”, said Sgt John Price( of the Saanich Police). “Access to Cameo St is restricted to residents of Cameo St only.”

As of 3 pm:

Cameo St is blocked off and the home remains behind police line tape.

Investigators are seeking a search warrant for the home. Other investigators are tasked with locating and notifying the next of kin.

This investigation is in the early stages; it is less than 12 hours old and as such investigators still have several tasks ahead of them.

It is anticipated that there will be an autopsy in the coming days.

Next briefing will be on Wednesday, March 19.
