Cordova Bay Death Investigation Update

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit and Saanich Police Department’s investigation at the crime scene at a residence at 4904 Cordova Bay Road and the post mortem examination of two individuals found inside of the residence has been completed. The investigation continues into the events leading up to the incident.

Due to the complex and fire damaged nature of the scene, the scene examination and confirmation on the identity of the deceased was lengthy. An autopsy was conducted on Monday. The final next of kin notification took place yesterday afternoon.

A comprehensive examination and search of the scene was completed last week, and the residence was released to a family member of one of the deceased at approximately 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

Police and the BC Coroners Service can now confirm the identities of the two deceased as 58 year old Peter KHURANA, and 56 year old Julie COX (KHURANA). Both were residents of the home.

“We will not be sharing information about the mechanism of the deaths” Sgt. Steve Eassie said. “The evidence located at the crime scene supports the events were confined to the inside of the residence. It is apparent the incident took place within the home that resulted in the death of one of the deceased. The other deceased appears to have taken their own life at some time following the incident.”

Police will be sharing the findings of the investigation with the BC Coroners Service and will continue to assist the Coroners Service with their investigation.

Anyone who may have information relating to this investigation are asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321, or Crime Stoppers at   1-800-222-TIPS (8477.)
