K9 Unit Helps To Locate Suspect In Overnight Break & Enter

Posted 2015-05-08

Just before 2:30 a.m, the Saanich Police Department were notified of an intrusion alarm at a commercial business located in the 3200 block of Oak Street in Saanich.

Officers arrived within minutes and found that the front glass door to the business had been broken, and that entry to the business would have been possible.

Zeke, a Saanich Police K9, along with his handler, Cst. ZIELINSKI, arrived on scene and went to work. Zeke and his handler were successful in locating a suspect, hiding within a large gargen area, within the same block.

The suspect, a 49 year old Victoria resident, was taken into custody without incident. Approximately $800 in merchandise, which consisted largely of clothing, was recovered at the point of arrest.

The suspect, who is known to police, was held in custody. A telebail process is expected to take place later today.

“This is an example of great teamwork” Sgt. Steve Eassie said. “From the alarm company, to our Dispatch centre and call takers, the responding officers, and of course the Canine team, everything worked as it is intended to do so”.
