Two arrested on Commerce Circle

On Thursday January 18, 2018, just after 8:30AM, Saanich Police attended the 4200 block of Commerce Circle.  Police had received a report that two people had chained the front doors at the Office of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada locking employees inside.

Two Officers attended and spoke with two people, who are drawing attention to the practice of open pen farmed Atlantic salmon in BC waters.  Officers spoke with two women who were seated in front of the main entrance of the building.  The women informed Officers they had placed the chains on the doors locking the employees inside.  Officers discussed with the women if they would remove the chains from the doors however they were unwilling to remove them.  The women agreed that if they were arrested for mischief they would peacefully give the key to Officers and go with them.

After a discussion, at around 9:00AM, the women were arrested for mischief and the chain was removed from the doors.  It’s anticipated the women will be placed on conditions not to attend the property on Commerce Circle and appear before the courts at a later date.
