A homeowner received a ticket early Sunday morning for hosting a Halloween party this weekend with 30 people inside the residence.

On November 1, 2020 at 2:45 a.m. Saanich Police officers responded to a noise complaint in the 3900 block of Lasalle Street where they located a loud party being hosted at a private residence.

Officers spoke to the homeowner about the noise and discovered that there were many more than six persons inside the residence. Despite warning them about the contravention of the Provincial Health Orders currently in place, cooperation was not immediately gained, and the party continued.

The party was eventually shutdown by police and officers counted 30 people leaving the residence. As a result, the homeowner was issued a violation ticket under the COVID Related Measures Act (CRMA) related to Gatherings and Events, specifically for “holding an event in a private residence (indoors or outdoors) with more than 6 guests who do not live there,” for the amount of $2,300.

“Our officers responded to several noise complaints over the weekend regarding gatherings in private homes. This was the only incident which a large private gathering was found to be held.”
