Fence Destroyed at Christmas Hill 21-1513

Date: January 21, 2021

File: 21-1513

Investigators are looking for information regarding a mischief that took place over the weekend of January 16-18, 2021.

A fence structure that was put in place to protect and promote ecological restoration on top of Christmas Hill in Saanich was completely destroyed over the weekend. Saanich Police were notified of the incident on Tuesday, January 19 by the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary, who explained that the fence had been built mostly by volunteers and donations from the public in order to protect the area from being trampled by foot traffic

The cedar split rails were nailed together. The suspect(s) dismantled the fence and threw the rails over the side of the hill and down an embankment. This would have taken a considerable amount of time to complete this task and the motive for doing this is unknown.

Saanich Police are looking for any witnesses or persons with information on this incident to please come forward. The Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary is a not-for-profit organization and this mischief has caused a significant loss for them.
