Homeowner catches burglar red handed

Wednesday morning, a homeowner caught a burglar red handed in his kitchen.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7th, at about 5:30am, in a residence in the 300 block of Ker ave, a homeowner awoke to find a male in his kitchen. When confronted, the thief was seen holding a wallet belonging to a resident. The suspect attempted to flee but was caught and held by the homeowner.

While the homeowner was holding the suspect, his wife contacted the Saanich Police by 9-1-1. Saanich Police uniformed officers arrived on scene and took the male into custody without further incident.

Investigation at the scene revealed that the thief entered through an unlocked window to the side of the front doorway.

Arrested was a 22 year old Saanich resident, Scott Kuebeck, who was held in custody to appear before a Justice. Kuebeck was remanded in custody to his next court appearance on September 14th.

Charges included:

– Break and Enter to a Dwelling House

– Possession of Stolen Property

– Theft Under $5000.00

Recovered from the suspect were items believed from other break-ins in the area. Of note a ladies brown Bosca wallet believed to have been taken from another break-in or theft from a car. A photo of the wallet is below. If this is your wallet or think you know whose it might be, please give the Saanich Police a call.

Despite the warm weather, this is a good reminder as to why all windows should be secured at all times.
