An Interesting Way To Turn Off A Street Light

Saanich File 2013-4246

Saanich Police and the Saanich Municipal Yard are asking for assistance from the public to locate the person responsible for at least two incidents of Mischief in the 900 block of Seapearl Place at Searidge Drive near the top of Claremont hill.

In early March, Saanich Public Works advised Saanich Police of two incidents, involving the same street light, where  someone had intentionally caused damage to a light fixture at the top of a lamp post.

Investigators believe that someone has shot both light fixtures using a high powered .22 calibre air rifle.  The damage to the street lights have resulted in the fixture needing replacement on both occasions.  The total cost for replacing the light fixtures has been estimated at $600.

No other damage has been noted in the area that would be considered consistent with this type of incident.  Neighbourhood canvassing has not revealed any further information.

Area residents are being asked to keep a watchful eye for anyone in the neighbourhood that may be acting in a suspicious manner.

Anyone with information relating to these incidents is asked to contact the Saanich Police at 250-475-4321.
