Police Involved Collision Overnight

A marked Saanich Police cruiser was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Sunday night, August 18.

Just before midnight, the police vehicle (2013 Dodge Charger) was heading westbound on Saanich Road towards the Trans Canada Highway. With its emergency lights activated, the police vehicle entered the intersection of Saanich Road and Blanshard Street, where it struck the drivers side of a vehicle that was making a left turn on a green light from Blanshard Street onto Saanich Road.

The civilian vehicle, a 2009 Hyundai Accent, was struck on the drivers side of the vehicle. As a result of the damage from the collision, the Hyundai was towed from the scene.

At the time of the collision there were four occupants inside the Hyundai, and one police officer in the police vehicle. There were no reported injuries as a result of this unfortunate incident.

Witnesses to the incident have provided detailed statements. The incident is currently under an internal review. No charges have been recommended at the time of this release.
