Operation Snapshot III Results In Arrest Of Saanich Man For Child Pornography Offences

On June 12, 2014, investigators from the Saanich Police Family Protection Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 3400 block of Maplewood Road, in the Municipaility of Saanich.

Information had been received from investigators with the Canadian Police Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (CPCMEC) concerning a national proactive investigation that was intended on identifiying sophisticated online users sharing child sexual abuse images. This investigation formed a small portion of the RCMP led investigation named “Operation Snapshot III”.

A 31 year old Saanich man was located at the residence and was detained for the purpose of the investigation.   A search warrant was executed and a number of items, including over 1000 DVD’s, multiple computers, and numerous harddrives were seized from the residence.

The 31 year old suspect was interviewed and released from custody on a number of conditions. Those conditions include: 1) abstain from communicating, directly or indirectly, with any person under the age of 18 years of age; 2) not attend to any daycare, park, school, recreation center, or area that a person under the age of 18 years old will congregate; 3) not to use, or be in possession of any computer or device that afford access to the internet; 4) not to possesss any type of pornographic material; and 5) report to a bail supervisor as directed.

Charges have not yet been approved by Crown and investigators are reviewing the evidence seized. It is anticipated that the following charges will be laid:

Accessing Child Pornography

Possessing Child Pornography

Making Available Child Pornography
