Update – Fire at Home Depot on Shelbourne St Intentionally Set

On Saturday April 9th at around 1130AM Saanich Fire Department and Saanich Police attended Home Depot in the 3900 block of Shelbourne St for a report of a fire.  It has now been determined the fire was intentionally set and Saanich Police have taken over conduct of the investigation. 

Sometime before 1130AM an unknown person entered Home Depot and intentionally set a fire near the paint department.  Once the fire was noticed Home Depot employees managed to evacuate all customers and employees.  The damage was contained to just Home Depot.  Other stores within the University Heights Shopping Centre had to be closed for a periods of time however were not affected by the fire damage.  Home Depot  suffered extensive water and fire damage yet there is still no estimate of the total cost of the damage at this time. 

Saanich Police are asking that if you were in the Shelbourne St Home Depot on April 9th, and saw anything suspicious, to call the Saanich Police Tip Line at 250-475-4356.  Also, if you took video or photos of any part of incident, Police are also asking you also call the Tip Line to speak with an Investigator. 

At this time there is no description of the suspect.  Detectives and Fire Investigators are working with Home Depot to obtain video surveillance which may be released once reviewed by Investigators.
