Impaired Driving Caught Speeding in School Zone 20-20743

September 11, 2020

On Thursday September 10, 2020 at approximately 2:15 p.m. an officer with our Traffic Safety Unit was conducting school zone enforcement at Campus View Elementary in the 3900 block of Gordon Head Road when he saw a black pickup truck speeding toward his location. His laser device recorded a speed of 76 km/h in the posted 30 km/h school zone.

The officer stopped the driver and noted the odour of liquor on his breath. A roadside breath-tests was administered, both of which the driver failed.

The driver was issued a $368 ticket for Excessive Speeding, a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.

“The decisions of this driver were careless and could have resulted in consequences far beyond fines, points or impounds. During a week where the emphasis is to welcome students back to school and promote the safety of everyone walking, cycling or driving to school, this certainly was a shocking a disappointing discovery.”
