Motorcycle involved in driving incident impounded

Saanich Police held a media conference on Thursday, April 19th, to announce that the motorcycle in the Youtube video has been seized.

We now know that this incident occurred on April 6th, 2012, in the afternoon hours. The bike has been identified as a Yamaha R1 and has a top speed of 320kph. It is valued new at $15 000.00.

The bike was located and seized on Friday, April 13th, 2012. It was towed from the 800 block of Admirals road and remains in police custody.

The type of driving behaviour seen in the video will not be tolerated. This is not just thrill seeking behaviour but a menace to other road users. No stone will be left unturned in attempting to locate a driver in incidents like this one. The community has spoken loudly about their concerns and many tips have been received to date.

Although this was a challenging investigation with many technical aspects, a forensic analysis of the video has confirmed the match to the bike that has been impounded. The investigator is now working with the BC Civil Forfeiture Office to seek forfeiture of the bike.

To date, no driver of the bike has been identified. The registered owner of the bike, believed to be the mother of the person riding, was charged with three Motor Vehicle Act offences, including:

• Drive without due care- $368

• Excessive speeding- $483

• No insurance- $598
