THE WINNING NUMBERS SERVICE SCAM
- Scammers send out a mailer which invites lottery players to subscribe to a service that has “an amazing record of picking winning numbers”.
- Claim to have a computer with artificial intelligence or they have “a renowned mathematician” on staff
- Charge a nominal fee of $20 – $30 for service
- Most numbers sent to customers are randomly picked
- Once someone has subscribed to their service the name is placed on their mailing lists for other scams as well as sold to other scammers
