Motorcyclist Injured

A 49 year old Saanich woman riding a motorcycle was hospitalized with a number of injuries after being struck by a car in the 4000 block of Shelbourne Street.

The collision happened at 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon (August 11th) in front of the University Heights Shopping Centre.

The woman was driving her Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Shelbourne Street. An oncoming Toyota Camry began to turn left into the Home Depot parking lot and it struck the motorcycle. A 74 year old Saanich man was driving the Camry.

The motorcycle rider was ejected onto the road. She was immediately treated by paramedics from the BC Ambulance station located right across the street.

The woman was taken to Victoria General Hospital. She was treated and is being held for further observation. She received a mild concussion along with a number of facial and lower body lacerations. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The Camry driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to the motorcycle. The fine for this violation is $167.
