Criminal Charges Laid in Summertime Crash

Crown Counsel has opted to lay criminal charges against an RCMP officer  involved in a collison in June 2012.

The Saanich Police Department was asked to conduct an external review and investigation of the motor vehicle collision that took place between an RCMP vehicle and a civilian vehicle at the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Miller Road, in Duncan.  The collision occurred on June 3, 2012.

Members of the Saanich Police Forensic Identification Section and the Collision Reconstuction Team conducted an independent investigation of the crash scene.  Members of the Detective Division coordinated the investigation and conducted interviews with nineteen (19) witnesses to the incident.

In November, a report was submitted to Crown Counsel to review the findings of the investigation. After reviewing the circumstances of the incident, Crown Counsel, who have oversight on the process, made a decision to proceed with
criminal charges against the RCMP officer, specifically for one count of Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm.

Further information relating to the decision can be obtained by contacting the headquarters of the Criminal Justice Branch in Victoria.
