Replica Gun Recovered Following Fight

Saanich Police have a 25 year old man in custody following a street fight at 7 a.m. Saturday (April 13th) near the Tillicum Shopping Centre.

The suspect is reported to have brandished a replica handgun and pointed it at a 57 year old man, after a verbal dispute between the men turned physical.

Multiple police units responded shortly after 7 a.m. into the area of Burnside Road West and Tillicum.

Police are still trying to determine how the 25 year old intoxicated man and his friend first became involved in a heated verbal argument with the 57 year old man. The older man did not know the two 25 year olds.

Both of the men who were fighting received some head and facial injuries. Police caught up with the suspect at Victoria General Hospital soon after the initial call.

Police recovered a realistic-looking replica handgun from a nearby home in the 200 block of Burnside Road West. It was found to be an air-powered pellet gun.

The investigation is continuing at this time. The 25 year old man is still being held in custody. Police will be recommending assault and weapons-related charges to Crown Counsel at a later date.
