Six Officers Named To Alexa’s Team

On May 6, 2014, the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC),  the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), and members of the Middelaer family held a ceremony to recognize 57 police officers from across Vancouver Island who were named to Alexa’s Team for their commitment in removing impaired drivers from the roads within their respective communities.

Alexa’s Team was created in remembrance of four year old Alexa Middelaer who was killed by an impaired driver in 2008. To be selected for Alexa’s Team these officers investigated and took enforcement action on a minimum of 12 impaired driving cases (criminal code or IRP fails).

The following members of the Saanich Police were named to Alexa’s Team in 2013:

Constable Michael Bainbridge

Constable Janis Carmena

Constable Jon Cawsey

Constable Bima Ribeiro

Constable Mark Kubitza

Constable Ian Ritchie

“We wish to congratulate these officers for being named to Alexa’s Team and for demonstrating their on-going commitment to taking impaired drivers off the road” said Inspector Trent Edwards.
