Thefts from vehicles on the rise but most are preventable

Saanich, BC – Saanich Police are reminding the public, when they park their vehicle, to lock their doors and take their valuables with them after a large number of thefts from vehicles since the beginning of 2019.

Since January 1, 2019 there have been 29 reported thefts from vehicles in Saanich.  In almost all of the reported incidents owners have left their vehicle unlocked.  Items that have been reported stolen have included credit cards, cash, gift cards and electronics.

“If you have fallen victim to a theft from your vehicle, we want to hear from you” said Sgt. Jereme Leslie. “If you see anyone in your neighbourhood that appears to be acting in a suspicious manner, especially in the late evening and early morning hours, please contact us.”

Areas most targeted, in the recent thefts, include residential areas near UVIC, Uptown and Tillicum. Saanich Police are asking for the public to be attentive by ensuring valuables are removed from their vehicles and to properly secure vehicles when they park.
