Laminated Licence Plates!

On March 19, 2019 a Saanich Police Traffic Safety Unit officer noted a vehicle that had a thick plastic cover over the rear licence plate making the plate very difficult to read and leaving the officer wondering if the vehicle was properly insured.  He pulled the grey Audi A4 over in the 3800 block of Quadra Street at about 2pm and found much more than he was expecting.

First the 33 year old Victoria man behind the wheel was a prohibited driver, second the vehicle was not insured, and third the licence plates were laminated pieces of paper!  As a result, the vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days, the driver was issued a $707 violation ticket for having a plastic cover over his plate and for having no insurance, and he was then arrested for prohibited driving and for altering a licence plate.

Although the results of this vehicle stop were surprising, this is a great example of the work our Traffic Safety Unit does on a daily basis to help keep our roads safe and to hold drivers accountable for their actions.
